Hello! This is a post on how to write a great post, but I think you already know because of the title!

Well, if you are writing a recount or about something that you’re going to do, don’t make it drag on and on with every single little detail you can think of, otherwise people would get pretty bored! So my advice to you is, use the details that actually tell the reader something, not make them bored. That also goes with narritives.  I just have to say that!

Use strong adjectives and verbs to make your post more exiting and interesting. Don’t use all the not-so-strong adjectives all the time like fun, cool, nice, pretty, and verbs, run, sing, dance, cry. There are times to use them and times that it’s not such a great idea, so watch out for that! If you write ‘We danced at the disco’ you could replace dance with something stronger like ‘boogied’ to make it more interesting. Same with cry, it isn’t a bad word either actually, but you could change it to something like ’wailed’, ‘bawled’ or ‘sobbed’ so the reader has an idea what the crying sounded like, not just crying.

Use humour, sadness, happiness, anger, and personal thoughts when needed, so the reader has an idea of what you feel about the thing that you are writing about. If it’s a narrative, maybe you could add in personal thoughts of the characters in the story. If it’s a report or something non-fiction, maybe you shouldn’t put in personal thoughts but you could use the other things if needed.

And use paragraphs so the post is easier for the person to read. I can’t say that I always remember to put in paragraphs, but I try to most of the time!  And make sure your spelling is correct, remember, you are writing this for other people to read!

Good luck on writing posts, I hope I helped a bit!

Peace. Love. Kitty Cats. Simone.    :)

  3. I was impressed at the central place emotion takes in your writing and how we are made to feel happy, sad, angry as the mood takes us. Yes, it is important to set a mood.

I also liked the way you used strong verbs as in the “boogie” example. Often verbs like “boogie” are strong because they are specific. “Dance” is probably more generic.

Would spelling still matter if other people weren’t reading your piece? What about the other elements of writing? I think it’s important to have satisifaction for yourself, and then share it with others.

    Great writing ideas, Simone!

(I have trouble with paragraphs too. Journalists often write one-sentence paragraphs. Poets write paragraphs with their verses/stanzas, and novelists have the flexibility to make them long and short – which is where your detail point in the first paragraph comes in).
